Oracle Open World 2011 — 5 Days — 50,000 Attendees
1 Dbvisit stand — 6 Staff — Our mission: spread the word
Oracle Standard Edition database users can access smart disaster recovery and database replication solutions and save up to 80% on Oracle licensing.
Six members of the Dbvisit team made the pilgrimage from New Zealand, the Czech Republic, Texas and California to what is considered Oracle’s biggest event in the calendar: the annual Open World conference in the heart of downtown San Francisco.
It was a huge week for us in terms of connecting with our customers, partners and prospects and a great opportunity to network with Oracle thought leaders and the wider Oracle community. It was also a chance for us to see how well our messages resonated with our target market of Standard Edition database users.
So what did we get up to? Well, amongst other things we…
Thank you to our customers for taking the time to visit our booth and catch up or introduce yourselves and, in many cases, put faces to names. To those of you who stopped at our booth to ask questions, receive demos or just to introduce yourselves, it was a pleasure to meet you. We look forward to working with you on your projects.
Thanks also to a number of those in the wider Oracle community who made the event so enjoyable for us, including the team at Pythian, Oracle ANZ and a number of Oracle ACE’s – you know who you are. For myself, and the other three Dbvisit team members who were Open World first timers, we appreciated the hospitality and the conversation.
I’ll leave you with some photos and we’ll see you there next year!
All the best,
Mike Donovan
Service & Online Delivery Manager

And we were in the middle of it all. 6 guys, 1 booth, loads of enthusiasm and a simple message: save up to 80% on Oracle licensing.

And the Golden Gate bridge, of course, with a complimentary air show to boot - which was phenomenal.

Congratulations to Jean-Pierre Bocchi (SETRA-Conseil - France). Winner on the day at the Dbvisit Meet & Greet event
Oracle Open World is just around the corner. For something a little different and in true Kiwi-style, we have decided to host our own informal gathering. It would be great if you could join us over a few drinks and nibbles to meet the team and find out about our new product Dbvisit Replicate.

Our Dbvisit web based version (Dbvisit Standby version 6.0) was scheduled to be released in April. Unfortunately this has been delayed while we try and resolve all remaining issues to ensure a stable version when we do release.
We are hoping to have Dbvisit Standby released at the end of May 2011.
Here is a preview of the reporting capability of Dbvisit Standby version 6.0.

We confirmed yesterday with Thomas Salmen, CTO at Orcon*, that he’ll be speaking at our Disaster Recovery Strategies for Oracle Standard Edition breakfast seminar on 27th April in Auckland.
Thomas will cover the thinking behind Orcon’s disaster recovery strategy and the steps they took to implement their solution.
This breakfast is one of two FREE seminars held in Auckland and Wellington on the 27th & 28th respectively. Delivered in partnership with Oracle NZ and supported by the New Zealand Oracle User Group (NZOUG), the topics covered include:
The seminars aim to arm IT Managers, Senior DBAs and Architects in businesses that rely on Oracle to store their data, with the information they need to ensure their data is always protected and available.
For more information and to register for this event go to our Disaster Recovery Strategies for Oracle Standard Edition page.
* Orcon uses Dbvisit as part of their DR infrastructure.
While our development team is hard at work putting the final touches on the NEW Dbvisit Standby web-based GUI, set for release at the end of March, we are pleased to be able to offer you a sneak preview of it here.
We are really excited about this evolution in the Dbvisit Standby product. What this means is that in addition to the command line access already offered, the new version wraps the application’s powerful functionality with a clean and elegant web interface – enabling commands for both the primary and standby databases to be run from the one place. No complex configuration is required as this new release comes with its own web server built in.
Managing your Oracle standby database systems just got a whole lot simpler…
If you have questions or comments then let us know. We’d love to receive your feedback.
Enjoy.

Please join Cintra, a Dbvisit partner, for a live Webinar exploring the significant benefits of SuperCharged Oracle Standard Edition solutions.
While Oracle Standard Edition and Standard Edition One are both powerful and cost effective database solutions, they lack many of the high availability and performance management features and options available with Oracle Enterprise Edition database. More…
PebbleIT’s most recent sale and implementation of Dbvisit has been at QBEInsurance Australia, Australia’s largest international insurer1 with offices in 49 countries and over 13,500 staff worldwide. QBE needed to sync their local systems to remote standby databases located offshore and chose Dbvisit because of its functionality and price.
Raymond Allo, the technical lead on the project, advised the benefits to QBE of using Dbvisit as an Oracle Data Guard alternative. “It was easy to convince QBE to utilise
Dbvisit as they could clearly see the cost saving to the organisation. Some applications do not require the features of Oracle Enterprise Edition and are adequately served by Standard or Standard Edition One. Also, Dbvisit does not require changes to be made to the init.ora file like Data Guard.” He also noted that Dbvisit was effectively handling transportation of data between a primary and standby site so far apart. “There was the tyranny of distance and bandwidth to get the initial copy of the database over to the US, but after that Dbvisit is very efficient at handling the log shipping”.
PebbleIT, founded in 2003 by Managing Director Marck Moscatelli and based in Sydney Australia became a Dbvisit reseller in 2007. While the business initially focused on delivering database-related services, the strong relationships they formed with their customers meant they soon moved into providing a more diverse range of IT services as required. This includes Application and web development, consulting and Managed Services, remote DBA Support, database development and migration, and a software license advisory service.
Pebble IT’s license advisory service has seen them become the trusted advisors to their customers and help companies such as Nielsen, AMCOR and National Health and Medical Research Council not only save $100,000′s in licence costs but also significantly reduce annual maintenance fees.
PebbleIT’s commitment to providing products which allow exceptional ROI to their clients means that Dbvisit is a natural fit for the company’s ethos of value through innovation, simplicity and personalised service.
